Andrick is 5 months old today! No pediatrician appointment this month, so I don’t know his official stats, but based on our very unofficial weighing on the bathroom scale I’d guess he is about 14.5 lbs. He’s definitely gotten longer, and he has outgrown his cute little summer hat, so his head is growing too. He’s well into 6 month clothes and still wearing size 2 diapers. Since I realized that the smaller diapers cost less per diaper, I’ve decided to keep him in size 2 as long as they will work!
This past month brought some big firsts for Andrick: first road trip (to Maryland for my stepbrother’s wedding) and first sickness. I’m happy to report that we survived both. On the development front, he’s gotten quite good at grabbing and can now bring toys to his mouth. He also spends a lot of time sucking his fingers and fists, not to mention drooling all over the place. We often suspect he is teething, but so far no teeth. For which I am thankful! He’s not technically rolling over yet, but he can sort of do it with a little assistance. He really loves to roll onto his side from his back, and when he’s on his tummy he can get to his back if you tuck his arm under him. He does a great job sitting in his Bumbo seat now, and I can feel his little torso getting stronger every day. He’s also spending lots of time soaking everything in. Anywhere he go, he is wide-eyed and looking around and, for the most part, really well-behaved in public. It’s completely adorable and earns him a lot of fans. Well, that and his big grin. And occasional giggles. Who can resist?
His cradle cap is almost gone–there’s just one stubborn little patch on the top of his head. The eczema has settled down a bit too. It comes and goes but hasn’t been widespread in quite a while. He’s nursing every three hours during the day. At night we had been going about 5-6 hours between wake-ups, but we stopped swaddling due to many escape attempts, and now he is waking every 3-4 hours again. He absolutely loves splashing in the bath. Also, I think he is going to be a little daredevil, because he thinks it is the coolest thing if I spin him around, throw him in the air, or swing him from side to side. On the bedtime reading front, we wrapped up The Hobbit, read A Wrinkle in Time, and recently started James and the Giant Peach.
We absolutely adore this little guy. He brings so much joy to our lives every single day.
