Andrick is 4 months old today! He weighs 13 pounds 8 ounces and is now more than double his birth weight. He’s 26 inches long–that’s three inches longer than he was at his 2 month appointment. Long and lean–that’s our boy! He’s still in 3 month clothes, although the 3-6 month things seems to fit him best. Diapers are size 2, but seeing how much he soaks them at night has me thinking we’ll be buying size 3 before too much longer.
The biggest development is that Andrick has started to become, well, mobile. If I put him on a blanket and walk out of the room, I’m no longer guaranteed that he’ll be in the same spot when I get back. He’s not rolling over, but he kicks those little legs like crazy and is able to rock and turn his body. He’s also hard at work on grabbing. His play gym is just perfect for grabbing practice (that link shows the one we have–Andrick loves it). He’ll hold his hands on either side of a toy, and you can practically see the wheels turning in his head as he coordinates the muscles to open his hand and move it toward a toy. Right now, it’s still a novelty to see him grab something (not to mention he hasn’t mastered letting go when he wants to), but I think it won’t be long until he’s grabbing everything in sight.
We continue to battle eczema and cradle cap. Other than feeling itchy from time to time, he’s a really happy boy with a pretty much constant river of drool coming out of his mouth. He continues to love bath time and spends much of the day working a fist or a couple of fingers in his mouth. He’s also starting to stretch out his nursing sessions, going at least 2.5 hours between feedings during the day. It doesn’t sound like a lot, but it feels hugely freeing to me! Nighttime sleep is getting more consistent in that most nights have only two wake-ups. We’ve successfully transitioned him to sleeping the full night in his crib, and we are slowly working on weaning from the swaddle. He may have gone through the four month sleep regression a few weeks ago–I’m not really sure. Either we got off relatively easy, or it hasn’t hit yet. We finished Treasure Island and are currently reading The Hobbit.
Speaking of reading, Andrick absolutely loves to be read to. Particularly when it’s his daddy reading to him. He’ll look at the pictures and listen to the story, and it’s just such a sweet time to spend with him.
